One day a friend hit me up saying he had a co-worker that makes beats, he asked me if I would be willing to review the CD. So I said “Yeah, sure no problem.” So I picked the CD “When I was a Goon” and popped it in my CD player and took a listen. For someone starting out producing his own music, it’s not that bad. The vibe I got when I heard “When I was a Goon” was very underground hip-hop to me, so automatically my ears were drawn closer to my speakers. I can easily hear an artist like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, or Common on these tracks. He has a good mix of effects on each track, nothing too overwhelming, but maybe if he’d just lighten up on what sounds like a high hat and adjust its volume to fade more into the background, then I think the bat would sound better. Other than that, he definitely has potential. I looked up some other beats on Youtube and I can tell he’s already progressing. If you want to find out more go to www.ThePaintedQuench.blogspot.com.
