In 2003 The Distillers released their third album Coral Fang. This album does have a noticeable change in sound which results in Coral Fang being more musical and lyrical than their previous releases. Even though it's not the 'punk' album I'm sure people were expecting when it came out but it definitely holds it's own. The album is a love and hate filled quarrel backed with melodic guitars, pounding drums, and is led by Brody Dalle's screams and groans. The album's songs are fairly mid-tempo like "Drain the Blood," "Dismantle Me," "Beat Your Heart Out," and "Love is Paranoid." Then you have the slower paced middle portion of the disc like "The Gallow is God" and "The Hunger." The final song on this album "Death Sex" shows that The Distillers didn't lose their punk explosiveness. The ending of Coral Fang reminds me of when a band finishes their set and destroys everything on stage but in the form of a song. I would say that this is The Distillers best album. They need to come back.
