Im Chris Garcia and i am Let's Drive to Alaska! I preform and record everything on the records. But my live members have changed around quite a bit. at times ive had about 8 people on stage including me. Right now i have my friends Elainne Gaeta, Jacob Palido, and Chris Houlgin Helping out Chris is in the Sliders. we are all multi-instermentalists so we jump around a lot haha.
What is music to you?
Music is something that i love doing, I've been doing it for years now and i just love making it.

What is the best thing about music?
Just Being able to Perform it live in front of people and the seeing the crowd enjoying it is amazing!

What is the worst thing about music?
The Writers block, At times it gets Hard to create music so you have to find Insperation some where. But when you do you cant stop writting.

What do you want to see happen thru music in the future?
are you doing anything to progress those ideas with my music? or music in general? in General I'd like to see independent music expand and really get out there. its hard to be heard now a days.

Does being involved in playing music make you miss out on anything?
Yea, I mean While working on my new Album I locked my self in my room and wrote for months and i lost track of life really haha.

What other instruments can you play (other than the ones they currently play in the band)?
hahaha well we all play alot of insterments. I can play most intserments. i just cant name them all cause it would be to long of a list haha.

What do you do for work right now, other than playing music?
well I go to college and I am currently not part of the working force haha. full time student.

What were some of your favorite bands growing up?
well Growing up my parents always thought I should be well rounded in the music department so I've been exposed to many differnt types but personaly i use to listen to alot of stuff like...Joan of arc, The Promise ring and just jade tree bands in general. But my favorite album of all time has to be Jets to brazil's "Perfecting Loneliness" its gotten me through some tough times haha.

Did your parents like you playing music and the person you are today?
Oh Yea! they have and always will be supportive of what ever line of work i do.

Is there a venue or area you would like to play that you have not played before?
Oh hummm Id like to play New York. I have some Friends that Live over there and they offered to house me if i went. ahah but Really Japan or Spain those are Beautiful countries and I hope to play there before i die.

What is your favorite venue or area to play shows?
The LA Area is Really Laid back. and the Beach areas are nice to. Lots of Nice people.

When, Where and how was your first show?
oh jeeze, it must have been like a year or 2 ago at this little cafe with my friends Far From a Masterpiece. it was to promote our 7inch split. it was fun! not to many people though.

Where was your best show?
Well The best one must have been this little house show in LA. it was in an appartemt we played a set to a full house it was amazing! The atmosphere was so energetic! it was great.

What religion are you and does that have an effect on your music?
Well Im Catholic, and no not really.People are entittled to what they want to believe.

How did you come up with your band name and what does it means?
Let's Drive to Alaska! Came from a Lyric by the Band Owls and I remember Driving in my car and Screaming it at the Top of my Lungs and decided that was the best name for the band.

Did you have any previous band names?
Originally the band was called Memphis Emphasis but then i decided to change it. the line up has changed dramaticly. im the only real person in the band haha.

What would you say to a kid who has no faith in himself?
well id say this " Hey Kid, Life is Full of Possibilities"

Who do you one day want to play a show with the most?
maybe The album leaf or MUM! or some one in the same genre as mine that i admire very much.

Do you have a web site?
currently working on a legit one but for now you can check the myspace for details.

Why do you play music, what makes you strive to be heard?
I guess i play music cause its kind of who i am ive always played music and i cant see myself doing anything else.

Why would anyone want to hear your music and what you are saying thru it?
The songs are very personal and they fit to the listenervand there are no lyrics so all im really doing is providing a sound track for peoples lives. Yes they are based off of things that have or are affecting my life but its how you listen to the music that really makes it your music.

How many people in the band right now are the original band members?
There are 4 of us. Elainne and Jacob are in My other Band The Coherent Mammals, and Chris is From my previous band The Sliders. the only orignal member is me really. the orignal live line up was Will Cobral, Oscar Gandara, and Erika Perez. but they either left for personal reasons or for their main bands.

What brought your band together?
we are all a group of friends and I needed help performing live and asked and they agreed to it.

Any funny or interesting stories?
My friends from Arizona Notes and North came down for a show and they had no where to sleep so they all slept in my little room all 7 of them it was rediculous.

How long have you been a band?
I have been making music for a little over 3 years. under differnt names of course.

What do you wish for your band to be in 5 years?
probally touring and palying more shows and gaining a bigger fan base

What is the best thing about being a band?
i can create something out of nothing and can call it art. and seeing other countries.

When was your band formed?
3 years ago.

How old were you when starting to play instruments?
i must have been 13 or 14 when i started playing drums and teaching myself the other insterments.

As a band still in highschool what kind of respect or disrespect do you get?
Comming from whittier, we have a growing music scene with the like of Repeat Repeat, Thornlake, Tracy, Vespers and Friend. I Mean i went to School with alot of those guys and im still good friends with alot of them aswell and well all that kind of music didnt really click with me, I couldnt see myself in a Dance band I mean i love electronic music dont get me wrong it just isnt me. so i decided to make instermental music. and in that there is alot of respect.

Where have you been playing lately and how has your response been?
La Based shows and Places in my area and the response has been great. but you have to understand there isnt music like this in my area. so it gets kind of hard. Some people get it and some dont. i still get people who come up to me and say " hey man where are the Lyrics?"

What inspires you to play?
I cant speak for my live members but for me personaly i have to say personal experiences and life in general

Have you ever been on tour, how many and how did you go?
I plan on a short tour in the winter time going through the the south western states like Arizona, new mexico, texas ect.

Your your latest cd, what do you guys think about it and what did your fans say about it?
Well the last one got a great response and people bought it. but ive been working on the new album and it should be out mid august. im really excited for it.
