How did you get the idea for your band name?
Who knows. Alex said it. Something about the idea of entertaining old people.

Whats your myspace link or any other link you want to give us?
www.myspace.com/earlybirdspecial

Who are you and where are you all from?
I be Adrian Sanchez(guitar), then there's Ian Perez(Vocals), Joel Bagby(Drums) and Alex Bostelman(Bass). We're all local cats from Huntington Beach.

How was your band formed?
We had all known each other since elementary school and, with the exception of Alex, had jammed with one another. One day during the first week of January 2004, we decided to bog down and do something.

What band has influenced you the most?
For me, it's At the Drive-In, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Howlin' Wolf, Pink Floyd, Ennio Morricone and the Pixies. The rest of the band ranges from The Klaxons to Mahavishnu Orchestra to Muse to King Crimson.

What do you try to have people get out of your music?
I try to give them something that can provide an escape or outlet from whatever pressures or hardships they're facing. That or just give them something decent to drink a beer to.

What inspires your lyrics? What are they all about?
Well as of late Ian writes most of the lyrics. But when I did write, it stemmed from just observing the oddities of situations and people around me. I tried to write it in almost a journalistic manner. Just report the facts and hope that honesty provides some insight or comfort to people in the same situations, good or bad. Almost always, there's alcohol involved in this "observational" process as well. So I guess theres that Bukowski influence in there too.

What makes you different from other bands out there?
We're a band that can moderate itself I guess. Me and Joel have an ear for the technical side of things whereas Ian and Alex go for a broader more concise perspective. We keep each other from going overboard, so we get the best of all worlds. We also have never let genre pin us down. It's why we're also available for bah mitsvahs.

Have a CD out?
We have 2 full lengths, Confetti and Rival Frequency. We have a more recent EP of songs available by request.

If you could give advice to a starting band or musician, what would you say?
As long as you truly love what you're creating and playing, forget what anyone else says.

What do you guys like to do on the road?
Well we haven't done any touring, but I think if we did it would involve alot of tomfoolery, shenanigans and skullduggery.

Got any crazy or wild stories youd like to share?
"Rival Frequency" was an album about a night of relentless debauchery and it's lows and highs. Let's just say this sort of debauchery may have contributed to a number of impromptu haircuts by various band members.

Do you have any upcoming shows?
We have a FREE show at Hogue Barmichael's on October 7th 2007. We'll give you a ticket, but only if you're gonna be loud, reckless and abandon any sense of morals or sanity.

What do you think about UFOs?
I believe in the Drake equation and the Fermi Paradox.

Describe your band in one word?
Schizophrenicsexspree

What were some of your favorite bands growing up?
Elvis, Los Lobos, Raul Di Blasio, Motown and mariachi.

What do you think is in store for the future of Early Bird Special?
I see sequins and a baked potato scandal.

What do you think of Big Smile Magazine?
It's legit.

Anything else you want to say to fans or anyone reading this interview?
