Hi James, how is everything going?
Grrrrrrreat.
You guys have a small tour coming up, where are you guys going to be going?
All the cool places between san diego and san Francisco!
What do you expect from this tour?
To lose a solid amount of money.
Any crazy stories from a tour from the past?
I almost got beat up by a tweaker in modesto once. And in july we took our van and trailer and pretended to be in norma jean and snuck into the back of warped tour. That was pretty cool.
What is your favorite venue to play at?
Houses. Especially michael’s house in alpine. I also really liked hogue barmichael’s in Newport beach and silhouettes in springfield Oregon.
Who all is in the band and what do each of you play?
I play guitar and sing, and steve plays guitar. We write everything. In five years there has been a rotating cast of characters playing drums and bass. Right now we are in our 267th rotational period and are trying out new characters, if any of you big smile magazine readers care to give it a shot. It has a lot to do with the movement of the heavens…astrology and such…
I read a lot of your lyrics and i like them a lot but where do you get the inspiration and ideas to write what you write?
They are all pretty autobiographical. Out of body experiences, sometimes, life in the programmed world. You know.
What are some of your biggest influences that influence your band and your sound?
Ummm. Bright eyes has definitely been the most consistent influence since I started writing music. I have favorite albums. Among them are: say anything: is a real boy, cursive: the ugly organ, pedro the lion: control, david bazan: fewer moving parts, bright eyes: lifted, brand new: devil and god…I like criteria a lot, and the new modest mouse.
What were some of your favorite bands when growing up?
If I tell you this I will lose all credibility.
Do all of your parents ever hang out together or like each other?
I was talking to a band the other day where they all live together and they were saying how their parents only see each other at shows and they maybe will say hi.

What can we be expecting from Shining Through in the future?
We will be putting out an acoustic ep around December 08. One, maybe two of the songs will be on our album entitled THEGREATENIGMA which we hope to have out by summer 09. It will be half really loud and half acoustic. Until we put out the album we will most likely be touring acoustic, just me and steve, in support of our acoustic ep while we work out which of my acoustic songs will be on the album. Basically none of this is known in shiningthroughland so YOU HEARD IT FIRST, big smile magazine.
If you could open for any band who would it be?
Probz say anything.
Name some bands you wouldn't be caught dead opening for, or even at their show to begin with?
This would take wayyy too long and I am a busy busy man, man.
How long has Shining Through been together?
Since November 03, I think. About 5 years.
You guys seem to be doing pretty well, lots of fans, do you have any promoting secrets that have worked the best for you that you would like to share with us?
